Troubleshooting and FAQ
Something not working? Find the message you're seeing below. If nothing helps, grab your log files and report it; see the end of this page.
"Connection problems – Disconnect in …"
This countdown appears when the server hasn't answered for 5 seconds. If it disappears, the connection recovered and you can keep playing. If it reaches zero you're disconnected with Connection timed out (after 20 seconds if the server never answered, 30 seconds during a match, 60 seconds in Map Creator).
- Short blips during a match usually mean Wi-Fi drop-outs or a busy connection. A wired connection and closing downloads/streams help.
- If it happens on every server, check your firewall (below) and your internet connection.
- If it only happens on one server, that server may be overloaded or far away; try one with lower ping.

The server list is empty
- 01Widen the filters
Set the source to All and turn on Show Empty and Show Full.
- 02Refresh
Press Refresh and give it a few seconds.
- 03Use Direct Connect
If you know an address, Direct Connect doesn't depend on the list.
Firewall and ports
- When Windows asks whether BattleSpades (or its bundled server) may use the network, choose Allow. Private networks are enough to play; allow public networks too if you host from a public Wi-Fi.
- Playing needs no port forwarding: the game only makes outgoing connections.
- Hosting from Create Match needs no port forwarding either: START GAME goes through the AoSPlay relay, and Steam friends connect through Steam's relays.
- Only a public dedicated server needs its UDP game port opened (usually
27015). See the server hosting guides.
Steam isn't detected
If the SIGN IN THROUGH STEAM button is missing or Join Game does nothing while Steam is running, fully exit Steam and start it again. Full steps are in Steam features.
The game won't start or looks wrong
- Make sure you extracted the whole ZIP and are running
bin\BattleSpadesClient.exefrom a folder you can write to. - If the asset import was cancelled, start the game again and point it at your Ace of Spades folder.
- Black screen, flicker or crashes on start? Delete
bin\settings.tomlto reset the settings, or try another Graphics API in Settings → GRAPHICS. - If it can't start at all, a dialog tells you where it wrote its diagnostics. Include that file in your report.
Report a bug
Bug reports are handled in the community Discord; the beta page explains how to report. Attach these files from the bin folder:
| File | What it is |
|---|---|
BattleSpadesClient.log (and .log.1) | The game log, next to the program. |
connection-diagnostics.log | Recent connection events, with no passwords or tokens. |
settings.toml | Your settings, useful for graphics problems. |
Say what you did, what you expected and what happened, plus the server name and time. A screenshot or short clip helps a lot.
Common questions
Where is my sign-in stored? How do I sign out everywhere?+
Your sign-in is saved (encrypted) in %LOCALAPPDATA%\AoS Revival\launcher_state.json for 30 days. Logout in the main menu clears it; deleting that file does the same.
I forgot my password.+
Open the website's Account page, choose Recover, and enter your username, the recovery code you saved when you registered, and a new password.
Where can I see what changed in the latest build?+
On What's new. Known problems are listed on the beta page.
