Ace of Spades classes and weapons

Your class decides how you fight and how you build. These loadouts and numbers come from the original game's own data, recovered for BattleSpades so the server behaves like the retail one.

The classes

Pick one primary, one secondary, one piece of equipment and one melee tool from each list. Every class also carries blocks and its own constructs.

The team class list is Commando, Marksman, Engineer, Miner, Specialist and Medic, in that order. Rocketeer exists in the game but only appears where a mode or server enables it.

Commando

Heavy weapons. You can do a lot of damage with heavy weaponry, and take a beating to boot.

Marksman

Long range, fast and fragile. Move fast and jump high! Your accuracy and damage are unmatched, but your health and ammo are limited, so don't stop moving. Takes more damage than other classes (x1.43).

Engineer

Builder with a jetpack. Up and away! Use your huge supply of blocks to build a base, and your jetpack to make the process even easier.

Miner

Tunnels and demolition. Why go through when you can go under? Tunnel and destroy your way to the enemy. Hard hat: headshots do half damage.

Specialist

Close-quarters run and gun. Run and gun! Effective in tight spaces but exposed out in the open.

Medic

Shield and healing. Pick up your shield and defend your team! Heal your allies or get behind enemy lines with heavy weaponry.

Rocketeer

Jetpack and explosives. Take to the skies! Use your jetpack to find places other classes can't reach, but be careful how exposed you are when you land. Not in the default team list; available where a mode or server enables it.

  • Arms and legs usually take less than the torso. Headshots use the head figure.
  • Damage taken depends on the victim's class: the Marksman takes 1.43× damage, the Miner's hard hat halves headshots, and zombies take 0.6×.
  • The Minigun has to spin up: it fires from 0.3 s between shots down to 0.1 s while you hold the trigger (right-click pre-spins it).

Explosives

ExplosiveDamageRadius (blocks)Notes
Grenade2304Commando, Rocketeer; 2 at spawn
Antipersonnel Grenade5006Commando; very high player damage, low block damage
RPG1406Commando; 1 loaded + 3 spare
Triple Barrel RPG406Commando; good for rocket jumps

C43008Miner; two charges
Landmine1006Marksman; arms after 4 s
Sticky Grenade2005Specialist; sticks to blocks and players
Grenade Launcher1004Specialist
Molotov Cocktail504Gangsters; sets blocks and players on fire

Blast damage falls off with distance and cover, and your own blasts hurt you at half strength. Melee tools dig as well as hit: the Super Spade digs a wide hole, the Pickaxe is fast, the Combat Knife barely digs.

Where these numbers come from

The values were read from the stock Steam client's own weapon classes and checked by the BattleSpades test suite; anything that couldn't be recovered is left out rather than guessed. The implementation notes live in the BattleSpades repository (opens in a new tab). Cosmetic skins from crates never change these numbers.

Common questions

What is the best class in Ace of Spades?

It depends on the mode. Engineers win building-heavy CTF and Zombie games, Miners and Commandos break bases in Demolition, and Marksmen control open maps. Medics keep a push alive.

What are Soldier and Scout?

Their internal names. In the game they're called Commando (Soldier) and Marksman (Scout); server configs and docs use the internal names.

Do skins change weapon stats?

No. Cosmetics keep the parent weapon's damage, ammo, handling and hitboxes.
