Windows installer
  1. Run the installer

    Open the file you downloaded. If Windows warns you: More info → Run anyway.

  2. Click through

    It finds your Steam Ace of Spades folder and installs next to it. No original file is replaced.

  3. Play

    Start the game. It checks for updates every time it opens.

Windows portable ZIP
  1. Extract the whole ZIP

    Into a folder you can write to, such as Documents\BattleSpades, not Program Files.

  2. Run the game

    Open bin and start BattleSpadesClient.exe. If Windows warns you: More info → Run anyway.

  3. Add your game files

    On first launch, pick your Ace of Spades folder, or use the game-files download the first-run screen offers. Your Steam copy is never changed.

  1. Open the download

    Double-click the .tar.gz file in Downloads. Finder unpacks it into BattleSpadesClient.app.

    Drag BattleSpadesClient.app into your Applications folder.

  3. First launch: right-click → Open

    The app is not signed by Apple yet. Right-click (or Control-click) it, choose Open, then Open again. You only do this once.

  5. Last resort: Terminal

    Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities), paste this and press Return. Then open the app normally.

Playing the original Ace of Spades on Steam?

Fix its mouse, movement and connection problems with AOSPatches. Free, for the Steam game on Windows.

  • Mouse aiming without Windows pointer acceleration, and no more jitter after alt-tab or minimizing

  1. Download Get the one-click installer.
  2. Double-click it Close the game first. If Windows says it protected your PC: More info → Run anyway.
  3. Press Enter. Done It finds your game, makes a backup and installs. Then play from Steam.

Advanced: install with PowerShell

Close the game, open PowerShell from the Start menu and paste this. It does the same as the one-click installer.

Manual install (ZIP)
  1. Open your game folder

    In Steam, right-click Ace of Spades → Manage → Browse local files. That opens Steam\steamapps\common\aceofspades\.

  2. Extract next to aos.exe

    Close the game and unzip AOSPatches.zip into that folder. Keep the relay folder.

  3. Play

    Start Ace of Spades from Steam as usual.

Uninstall or switch a fix off
  1. Installed with the installer

    Double-click the one-click installer again and press U. It puts every file back byte for byte.

  2. Copied by hand

    Close the game and delete winmm.dll, aosfix_runtime.py, the aos_*fix.py files, aos_steam_bridge.py and the relay folder.

  3. Switch one fix off

    Add a Steam launch option such as +legacymouse or +legacymovement. The full list is in the AOSPatches README (opens in a new tab).

Public server and console hosting
  1. Public server

    On the Network tab use port 32887, try Automatic port forwarding, and turn on the Steam server list.

  2. Prefer a console?

    Edit config.toml, then run BattleSpades --check and BattleSpades.

  3. macOS

    The server is not signed by Apple yet: right-click BattleSpadesServer and choose Open the first time.
