# Ace of Spades on Steam: play your copy again

> Own Ace of Spades on Steam? Play it online again: the Steam game joins BattleSpades servers, and the new client uses your Steam files and adds Steam invites.

If Ace of Spades: Battle Builder is in your Steam library, you can play online again. There are two ways: keep the **original Steam game** and join revival servers, or install the **new BattleSpades client**, which uses your Steam copy's files and adds modern features.

## Two ways to play your Steam copy

| **Identity** | Your Steam account, checked by the server through Steam. | AoSPlay account, Steam sign-in or guest. |
| **Extras** | The game as it shipped. | Friends, lobbies, Create Match without port forwarding, inventory, cosmetics, bug fixes. |

Both routes land in the same matches: BattleSpades servers accept the original client and the new one side by side.

## Steam features in the new client

- **Sign in through Steam**: your Steam name becomes your in-game name.
- **Join Game** from the Steam friends list and **Invite to Game** from the Steam overlay while you host a match.
- **Steam's relay network** lets friends join a hosted match without opening ports.

> **Heads up: Known issue in Beta 0.1.** In the Beta 0.1 download, Steam Join Game and Invite to Game can fail to open or connect the game; it is fixed in the next client build. ## "Steam is running but nothing Steam works"

If the **SIGN IN THROUGH STEAM** button never appears, an old no-Steam copy of the game or a Steam crash may have left Steam's registration pointing at a closed program. Quit the game, fully exit Steam (**Steam → Exit**), start Steam again and then the game. Details are in [the Steam guide](https://www.aosplay.net/guides/steam#restart-steam).

## How the revival works with Steam

- The original Steam game proves who you are with a Steam session ticket. A BattleSpades server waits for Steam's own approval before treating you as that Steam account; the revival never sees your Steam password.
- Official servers are being registered with Steam's game-server directory so the original game's own browser can find them.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Ace of Spades still work on Steam?

Your Steam copy still launches, and it can play online again on BattleSpades servers, which accept the unmodified Steam game. You can also use it with the new BattleSpades client.

### Do I need to buy anything?

No purchase is made through the revival. If you already own Ace of Spades, the revival client and servers are free. The old **Buy** buttons on Mafia playlists only open the old Steam store page.

### Can I play with Steam friends?
